BP’s Dismal Safety Record

Are you freakin’ kidding me?  760 “egregious, willful” OSHA safety violations in just 5 years?  Compared to the next highest number, 8?  That is just outrageous!  Oh, so our Texas plant blew up.  Let’s rebuild it, complete with the SAME safety problems that caused it to blow up in the first place!  Brilliant, BP, brilliant!

Of course, BP paid fines.  Millions of dollars worth of fines.  But shouldn’t the punishments at some point be upgraded to another level?  I don’t know, maybe around violation 200 or 300 or so?  Because it is clear that to BP, fines are just another cost of doing business, and they just don’t give a damn about the safety of their employees, or anyone who just happens to be in the vicinity of one of their plants for that matter.  I guess money that could be spent on safety improvements is better spent paying for glossy television advertisements touting just how “environmentally friendly” they are and how they are making things “a little better”.

You know, shame on us all for not being better aware of BP activities.  But we all have lives.  It’s difficult to be fully aware of everything about everybody.  But now we do know this, at least as far as I’m concerned, BP is a bad company not deserving of our business.  I will not be buying BP products.  In addition to BP products, Castrol is a BP brand, so I’m not buying those either!

Now, if there was truth in advertising, a BP television ad would look a little more like this:
